No-exam life insurance
Who qualifies, the actual process, and what happens if you don't meet the quick-approval criteria.
Accelerated underwriting is now offered by many insurers. For applicants within certain age and coverage limits, they can make decisions using your application, prescription records, driving history and public records—no exam. Some approvals come through the same day. Every quote on this site notes whether an exam is required, might be needed, or isn't required.
What it changes
Skipping an exam doesn't skip underwriting. Your application answers get checked, and a policy issued on false information can be challenged during the first two years. The carrier may still request an exam or lab tests if something in their records needs clarification; you can opt out at that point.
Who tends to qualify
Generally, applicants younger than 60, applying for amounts within the carrier's quick-approval limit, with no significant health issues and no tobacco use in the past year or longer. Some carriers will accept recent bloodwork from your doctor in place of their exam.
Should you need an exam, it's typically a 20- to 30-minute appointment at your home or workplace in Monterey Park, with no cost to you. The results often put healthy applicants in a better rate class, so an exam can actually work in your favor.
